He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Owen Merson and Esther Ruth Merson; and his siblings, James Merson, Bertha Youse, Adelaide Harless and Shirley Coon.

He is survived by: his wife Linda S. Merson; his children, Philip Merson Jr. and Michelle Dwyer (Chuck); his grandchildren, Ashley Merson and Kayleigh Livingston; his great grandchildren, Carleigh Austin and Saralynn Austin; and his sister Mary Bromwell.
