He was predeceased by: his parents, James Bevard Rutledge and Marian Elizabeth Rutledge (Wiley); and his siblings, William Rutledge, Dr. James Rutledge and Anne Harkins.
He is survived by: his wife Mary M. Rutledge; his children, Walter Rutledge (Charlotte), Martha Ann Smithson (Garry) and David Rutledge (Patricia); and his sister Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Murphy. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
