He was predeceased by: his parents, Georgia Rae (Sartain) and William Barker Fleming; his wife Audrey Jean Bryant; his children, Donna Haarhoff and Thomas Wintersteen; and his brothers, William Fleming, Jr. and David Fleming.
He is survived by: his children, Roger D. Stewart of Gaithersburg and Tamerind "Tammy" Davis (Lee) of California, MD; his siblings, Patricia Amos of Covington, Ruth Fleming of Covington and Gary Fleming of Martinsville, VA.; and his pet Chloe. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
