Ruth Ellen Lafontaine Obituary
Ruth Ellen LaFontaine, beloved wife, mother, sister, nurse, and teacher is resting in the arms of the Lord. In the end, she was surrounded by those she loved the most, her husband, Amos (Bucky) and son, Matthew. We are all thankful that she is no longer suffering and at peace. It is notable to comment that, despite her pain over the last two years, she was always concerned about others.
This is what we remember most about her life. She was born to Ruth and Raymond Schwartz (deceased) on March 25, 1948 in Washington D.C. She was raised in Falls Church, Virginia, one of eight children. She graduated from Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and subsequently graduated from Loyola University with a degree in Special Education.
She received Master degrees from both Loyola University and Goucher College. She taught. Special Education in the Baltimore City School District for 42 years. Surviving are her husband of 36 years, Amos LaFontaine, and her loving son, Matthew LaFontaine. Also surviving are her seven siblings, Raymond Schwartz (Anna), Richard Schwartz (Rhonda), Roger Schwartz (Laura), Roberta Cowley, Regina Kegel (Daniel), Rosalyn Foroobar (Michael), and Rieta Scott (Keith) .
Ruth was also survived by her sister in law, Paulette Price. She had numerous nieces and nephews: Raymond Schwartz, Will Schwartz, R. Adams Cowley, Rachel and Rebecca Schwartz, Emily Sonnon, Margaret Kegel, Michael Foroobar, Allison Skidmore, Taylor and Barrett Scott, Dawn Price (Jimmy), Jason, Jeffrey and Brian Price, Mike and Steve LaFontaine.
Even the grandchildren knew Aunt Ruthie. Ruth was actively involved in the lives of each of these many members of her family and each one knows, on a very personal level, how much she loved and cared for them. Many of them was the recipients of her expertise in teaching during their education. She loved her son Matthew and husband Bucky (Amos) beyond measure.
