He is survived by: his wife Zelma Spurgeon; his children, Roger L. Spurgeon, Jr. (Kimberly), Lori Layton and Brent Spurgeon; his grandchildren, Brandi Layton, Britney Murphy (Sean), Roger Spurgeon, III (Amanda), Cody Spurgeon (Ashley) and Elizabeth Campbell; his great grandchildren, Tripp Spurgeon and Georgia Murphy; his brother Thomas E. Spurgeon; and his nephews, Michael Spurgeon and Patrick Spurgeon.
In lieu of flowers the family asks the donations be made in Roger's memory to Compass Regional Hospice c/o Kent Hospice Center, 160 Coursevall Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
