It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of William Dudley Godwin (Hagerstown, Maryland), born in Jamaica, New York, who passed away on February 8, 2025, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his former wife Mary Smith Godwin; his wife Sara Ann Godwin; and his brother James Godwin. He is survived by: his children, Thomas Godwin (Jana) of Canon City, Colorado, Jennifer Godwin-McNulty (Nick) of Hagerstown, Susan Nsangou of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Jane P Godwin of Laurel, Maryland.; his stepchildren, Amanda Crider of France and Robert Crider III of Harrisburg, NC; his sister Mary Volz-Peacock (Ron) of Fredericksburg, VA; his siblings-in-law, Roberta Smith Wilhelm of Finksburg, MD, Henry Smith of Silver Spring, Maryland and George Smith of Silver Spring, Maryland; and his close friend June Fraker. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 29th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. John's Episcopal Church (101 S Prospect St, Hagerstown, MD 21740).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William D. Godwin Agriculture Scholarship Fund at the University of Maryland (c/o Dean's Office, Symons Hall, College Park, MD 20740) or to the Western Maryland Hospital Center Therapeutic Gardens.
