He was predeceased by: his parent Betty Dodson Young; his foster father Leonard Emmert; his parent Gracia Emmert; his siblings, Steven Dodson, Stanley Dodson and Betsy Lynch; his foster sister Linda Earley; his siblings-in-law, Howard Souders, Jr. and Diane Souders; and his parents-in-law, Marion Hershberger and Howard Souders, Sr..
He is survived by: his wife Lucinda "Cindy" Mae Swales; his sister Linda Betts (Aubrey); his foster brothers, Charles Reger (Pat Frazier) and Albert Sheffler (Carolyn); his siblings-in-law, John, Kelli Souders and Joy Dodson; his niece Sarah Souders; and his great-nephew Zane Souders. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nephews.
