He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Valentine and Catherine Valentine (Brown); and his siblings, Herman Valentine, Jr., Richard Valentine, Robert Valentine and Mary K. May.
He is survived by: his girlfriend Janet Goller; his sister Ruth E. Mills (Richard); his sons, Jemal Valentine (Hope) and Justin Valentine (Sue); and his former wife Ida Valentine. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
