He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin F. Merritt, Sr. and Annie Lee Carpenter; and his brother John W. Merritt, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Merritt; and his children, Benjamin F. Merritt, III (Amy), Robert Merritt, Steve Ness and Patricia Furnass. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
