He was predeceased by: his parents, James Patterson and Eleanor "Tiny" Patterson; and his siblings, Carolyn Miller and James "Bruz" Patterson. He is survived by: his wife Jane "Janie" Patterson; his children, Eric Patterson (Selena) and Susan Booth (Dirk); his grandchildren, Aaron Patterson and Abbey Patterson (Ryan Einzel); his great grandchildren, Lilly, Lucy and Grant; his sister LaVonne Clise (Jim); his sisters-in-law, Kathy Forman (Dave) and Ceil Patterson; and his pet Maggie.

Memorial Donations in George's honor can be given to Glioblastoma Foundation, P.O. Box 62066 Durham, NC 27715.
