He was predeceased by: his parents, G. Hunter Bowers Sr. and Isabel Houck Bowers; his siblings, C. Richard Bowers and Joesphine Butler; and his grandson Matt Bachtell.
He is survived by: his wife Eleanor Cartwright Gambrill of Frederick; and his children, Grayson Hunter III (Bretta), Charles Michael (Marsha), Philip Winebrener, Virginia Houck Stenger (Herman) and Ann Lane Loehr (Joe). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
