He was predeceased by: his spouse Quinella Muse Toms; his parent Alvie E., Sr.; and his siblings, Marjorie Grams, Constance Simmons, Carroll Toms, Richard Toms, Alvie E. Toms, Jr., Oliver Toms, Charles Toms and Allan Toms.
He is survived by: his parent Mollie Harne Toms; his children, Cynthia Warnock (Wayne), Roxanna Mercer, Quinella Miller (Gary), John E. Mercer and Norman D. Mercer III; his siblings, Kenneth Toms (Nancy) and Evelyn Goff; and his sister-in-law Jeannette Toms.
