He was predeceased by: his parents, John Gilmer and Mae Cordelia Garst; his sons, James and Steven; and his siblings, John, Richard Garst and Louise Cline.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy L. Garst (James); his children, Linda Bruchey (Charles), Nancy Hawkins (Bill) and Kenneth Garst (Peggy Sue); his daughter-in-law Mary Garst of Frederick; his grandchildren, Chad Hawkins (Dani), Bradley Hawkins, Brian Hawkins, Lindsey Mclnerney (Mitch), Lisa Chakalis (Tony), Lucas Garst and Shawn Garst; his great grandchildren, Claire, Jane Hawkins, Blair, Margot McInerney, Branch, Ryder and Navy Chakalis; and his siblings, Donald Garst and Virginia Coblentz.
