He was predeceased by: his parents, A. Roger Luttrell and Helen Anderson Luttrell; his son Jeff Luttrell; his daughter-in-law Sherri Luttrell; his niece Jacqueline Knox; and his close friend Marilee Quesada.
He is survived by: his children, Nick Luttrell and Cathy Joy (Alan); his daughter-in-law Deedee Luttrell; his grandsons, Thomas of Frederick, James of Frederick, Coleman Luttrell of Frederick and Daniel Joy of Frederick; his sister Kay Knox of Gettysburg; his stepdaughter Melissa Liszka Newman (Michael); and his stepgrandchild Maya of Virginia.
He then received a National Science Foundation Fellowship to the Pennsylvania State University where he earned an M.Ed. in mathematics.
