He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, William Hemelt and Sarah Hemelt; his wife Joan Hemelt; his sister Mary Louise Gotti; his son William R. Hemelt (Terri); his granddaughter Katie Collins; his great grandchildren, Hailee Collins and Logan Collins; his stepdaughters, Kristen Wilkinson (Steve) and Jenna Woodward (Seth); his stepgrandchildren, Kora Wilkinson, Sylvie Woodward and Marion Woodward; and his sister Eleanor Goldsmith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (http://www.nmcrs.org).
