He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman T. Flater and Vivian Flater (Hall); and his daughter Dawn Hawley. He is survived by: his wife Effie "Iver" Flater; his children, Gail Flater (Eddie), Genice Rill (Scott) and Nicole Flater; his siblings, Molly Schwartzbeck (Tip) and Tommy Flater; his grandchildren, Steven, Scotty, Alan, Shawn and April; and his great grandchild Kyla.
