He was predeceased by: his brother William Mathias. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen S. Mathias; his children, Kelley Walters (Donald), David Mathias (Sarah) and Amy Daras (Mark); his grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb, Samuel, Tyler, Brooke and Chase; and his stepsister Betty Lee Schaefer.
