He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Charles Edward and Velva Gladys Mitchell (Hedrick); his son Willard Mitchell; his siblings, Helen Wollank, Clarence Mitchell, Laura Rose and Zack Mitchell; his wife Betty Ann (Smith); his children, Gladys (Gary Rawlings), Bonnie (Samuel Taylor), Kimberly (Shawn Gibson), Beverly (William Ellis), Walter Jr., Nuzhat Mitchell, Travis Mitchell and Stephanie (Anthony Hurley); his grandchildren, Wilford, Jane, Laura, Joshua, Howard III, Michael, Brittany, Brianna, Christina, Micah, Will, Jr., Maquela, Melissa, Christopher, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Walter III, Mackenzie, Samuel, Jasmine, Sophia, Mason, Olivia, Peyton and Stella; and his great grandchildren, Juliana, Evan, Kyle, Hailey, Daniel, Elijah, Karissa, Cayden, Audrey and Noah. He was also cherished by 7 children, 21 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

With limitations made to funeral practices due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all guests are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing per current public health guidelines.
