He is survived by: his spouse Sun Ackerman (Young); his sons, Christopher Ackerman (Brittney) and William Ackerman III (Ashley); his grandchildren, Christopher Ackerman, Raegan Ackerman, Lincoln Sagliani, Briggs Ackerman and Yeardley Ackerman; and his siblings, Daniel Ackerman and Wendy Ackerman.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in William's memory to American Legion Post #17, 415 State Hwy 755, Edgewood, MD 21040.
