She was predeceased by: her parents, Mary Louise Dorsey Earl and Sam Earl, Sr.; and her siblings, Sam Earl, Jr., Geneva Lawrence and Earnestine William.
She is survived by: her husband William Edward Northan; her daughter Bernadette Moody-Mcrae; her great grandchildren, Ka'dynce Julene Haywood, Meghan Juliana Moody and Destiny Joy Israel Moody; her sister Irma Hunt; and her godchildren, Agatha Sawyer, Tiara Sawyer, Cheyanne Sawyer and Nicholas Sawyer. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Julene supported and sponsored several nonprofit organizations such as the Market Street Mission in New Jersey, the St. Jude Research and other projects, The TD JAKES Foundation, and The Oprah Winfrey Foundation.
