He was predeceased by: his parents, H. Vernon Hutson and Beulah Morris Hutson of Bozman, Maryland.; and his sister Iris Lane (Lee Lane). He is survived by: his wife Olivia L. Spurgeon; his daughters, Laura Hutson and Elizabeth Burns; his son-in-law Russell Burns; his grandson Ian Hutson; and his cousin Charles Hutson, Jr..
