He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Thomas and Pearl Thomas; and his grandson Zachary Thomas. He is survived by: his wife Freida Thomas; his children, Donna Harper (Woody), Robert Thomas (Lona), George Thomas, John Thomas (Angela) and Elizabeth Campbell (Mark); his stepdaughter Dawn Hubbard (Mark); and his grandchildren, Heather Colbourne, Justin Harper, Seth Thomas, Logan Thomas and Megan Campbell. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
