He was loved and cherished by many people including: his father James Joseph Lonergan; his former spouse Shirley Ann Stelljies; his children, Marianne Theresa, John Joseph Jr., Michael Patrick, Sharon Marie and Gregory David; his wife Linda Lee Edds; and his son Bryan David.

In Lieu of Flowers memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society will be appreciated.
