He was predeceased by: his parents, William Monroe and Thelma Hymes (Shoemaker); his wife Donna Hymes (Mantheiy); and his brothers, Leonard and Robert Hymes.
He is survived by: his children, Lori and James Hymes, Jr.; and his grandson Kobie Hymes. He is also survived by uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews.
