Rick Matheny wrote a sympathy message

“Our house was just up Grant Street from the Canon house on Winchester Road. Roger and I shot BB Guns together; repaired my first car's transmission together; with Rodney Beachy, we unsuccessfully tried to sneak into the Celanese Pool at night; and both worked at Uncle Lu's Tastee Freeze. I used to go play catch with him, his brother, and his dad in their backyard. I saw him have his first car accident. He always had something funny to say about everything and anything. Roger was a good person.”
