With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Wilda B Newman (Columbia, Maryland), who passed away on April 5, 2025 at the age of 82. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Samuel Murray Bowers and Eunice Bowers Carr; her stepfather Frank Carr; and her brother Samuel Bowers, Jr. (Wilda). She is survived by: her husband Edward; her son David Samuel Newman (Gail) of Columbia; and her siblings, Bobbi Bowers Leonard of Florence, SC, Judy Seymore of Elizabethton, Kristi Carr of Elizabethton, Karen Gilmore of Kernersville, NC and Jerry Carr of Elizabethton. She is also survived by six nephews.

Wilda also was named a SLA Fellow in 1997, an award that acknowledged her leadership and outstanding contributions to the association.
