He was predeceased by: his son Scott Miller; and his parents, Robert J. Hughes, Sr. and Elsie Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Margaret M. Miller; his daughter Laura E. Maiocco; and his brother Dennis Hughes. He is also survived by many relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Gilchrist Hospice Care (Howard County Inpatient Unit), 6336 Cedar Lane Columbia, MD 21044-3897 (443-849-8330).
