He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Kim Birnie; his children, Dunbar Paul Birnie, III (Louise Senior), Susan Birnie Rasheed and Michael Kim; his grandchildren, April Ruby Rose Birnie, Dunbar Paul Birnie, IV and Erynne Nur Rasheed; his parents, Dunbar Paul Birnie and Ruth Perrine Birnie; his sister Grace Wilding Birnie; and his son-in-law Ahsin Rasheed.
