She is survived by: her daughter Chenelle Fisher Pettiford (Keith); her grandchildren, Kayla Pettiford and Justin Pettiford; her brothers, Walter Gilbert (Inez) and Michael Gilbert (Tessa); her uncle Claude Gilbert (Majorie); her daughter Myra Charity (Butler); and her close friends, Lorrie Johnson and Saundra Sutton.

While serving as chairperson, the church managed to persevere through the pandemic and be successful in keeping the fellowship alive through online services.

Mary was an active member of Chestertown Legacy Day Committee, where she pressed for inclusiveness and the celebration of all cultures, especially the African American contributions to the town.
