He was predeceased by: his father Melvin Martin Garber; his stepfather Roy Gosnell; and his sister Judy Bennett. He is survived by: his mother Charlotte Smith Gosnell; his wife Gail Strosnider Garber; his daughters, Gretchen Vitak (John) of Elkton, MD and K. Nicole Lougheed (Matt) of Cecilton, MD; his grandchildren, Hunter Tollinger, Megan O'Neal, Halle O'Neal, Colin O'Neal and Charlotte Lougheed; his half-sisters, Linda Garber and Pam Detrick; and his stepsiblings, Ross Gosnell, Andrew Gosnell and Deborah Deardorff. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cecil County Public Schools Scholarship Fund, as it will be used for a scholarship in Mr. Garber's name at Bohemia Manor High School.
