He was predeceased by: his parents, George Johnson and Ilamae Johnson; and his sister Lyndia Sullivan. He is survived by: his wife Beatrice Shores-Johnson of Chance; his children, Jordan Park Johnson, Mamie Jo Johnson and Jonathan Matthew Johnson; his granddaughter Gabby; and his sisters, Darlene Isom-Fields of Morristown, Peggy Young of Baltimore, Marlene Hubley of Pennsylvania and Arlene Airey (Jeff) of Federalsburg. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
