He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas C. "Babe" Potter and Imogene Tawes Potter; his son Ronald "Ronnie" Potter; and his brother Thomas Potter. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Rhodes Potter of Salisbury; his sons, Rick Potter (Nancy) and Chuck Potter (Michele); his grandchildren, Nicholas Potter (MacKenzie), Brandie Johnson (Justin) and Bryan Towers (Taryn); his great grandchildren, Madison, Addie, Paxton and Dominick; and his sister Harriett Pritchett (Bryan). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
