She was predeceased by: her parents, Howard T. Cox and Flora B. Cox; her husband Luke H. Messick, Jr.; and her brothers, John H., William B., Emerson W. and Robert W. Cox.
She is survived by: her daughters, Susan M. Harper (Daniel Insley) of Cambridge and Luann M. Jackson (Lee A. Jackson) of Hurlock; her grandchildren, Wesley H. Harper (Jacquelyn Wright), Christopher L. Harper, Sarah H. Cloxton, Valerie J. Friedel (Andrew) and Robert A. Jackson (Raquel); her great grandchildren, Madelyn R. Harper, Lucas W. Harper, Joshua Friedel, Evelyn Friedel, Daniel H. Cloxton and Ryla Jackson; and her brother Howard T. Cox, Jr. of Weaverville, NC. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
