Mike Matejevich wrote a sympathy message

“We drove to the diary around the beltway but convinced Gerry to drive back thru town. What a mistake. We went right up North Ave-middle of the riots. We were surrounded and thought 'this is it' when a group of Nat'l Guard soldiers dispersed the crowd, yelled at us and then escorted us up to Hilton St. (Caton Ave extended). Mission accomplished. Gerry was as cool and calm as he always was while we were freaking out. Sorry I am out of town for the reception but I do wish he rests in peace.”

Mike Matejevich wrote a sympathy message

“Gerry was a great guy and even a greater audience for my twisted sense of humor. We went to Gibbons together and just as important, we worked together in the Kitchen at St Agnes. He worked harder than any of the "School Boys" (as they called us), no matter how awful the job was-he just quietly went about doing it. My most vivid memory happened during the '68 riots. The city was shut down, we were working and Sealtest would not deliver milk. Story to continue in next post.”
