He was predeceased by: his father David J. Higgins. He is survived by: his mother Gracie M. Kellock; his wife Alba; his daughters, Anna, Melissa and Sarah Higgins; his granddaughter Alianna; and his siblings, Cindy, Tammy, Kelli, Michael, Frank, Justin and Joseph.

In his memory, donations can be made to his meal train, which will be used to support meals and financial assistance for the immediate family.
