He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert James, Jr. and Marian Carpenter; and his brother Albert James III. He is survived by: his wife Carolina; his children, Kathy Adams (Dale), Lynn Hardman (Bill) of Yellow Springs, OH, David Carpenter (Candace) of Brandywine, MD, Brian Libby (Laura) of Noblesville, IN and Mark Libby (Wendy) of Groton, MA; his brother Charles "Chuck" Carpenter of Lakewood; his former wife Marsha Carle; and also Chemistry. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, one great grandson.
