He was predeceased by: his parent Ralph Raymond Gehr; and his wife Sara Kathryn "Kay" Gehr. He is survived by: his parent Rachel Ann Gehr (Shank); his children, Jennifer L. Spong (Grant) and Daniel R. Gehr (Pamela) of Big Pool; and his grandchildren, David (Jackie), Michael (Robbi), Richard (Katie), Joshua (Shallon), Karen (Brett), Kimberly (Bryan) and Denton. He is also survived by 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
