He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas E. Sr. Fitzgerald and Marie Fitzgerald; his son David Howard Fitzgerald; and his brother John Fitzgerald (Becky). He is survived by: his wife Barbara Miller Fitzgerald; his sons, Tom Fitzgerald, III and Mike Fitzgerald (Kim); his grandchildren, Michael and Kristen Fitzgerald; and his siblings, Richard (Anne) and Joanne Griffin (Jerry). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
