He is survived by: his wife Mona Datta Ponnapalli; his son Krishna D. Ponnapalli; his parents, Ramachandra Murty and Lalitha Ponnapalli; his sisters, Sasi Chandran (Ponnapalli) and Saila Kariat (Ponnapalli); and his nieces, Sushma Chandran, Dr. Anitha Chandran, Sabina Kariat and Tara Kariat.
A funeral service was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Homes, Inc. - Bethesda (7557 Wisconsin Ave, Bethesda, MD 20814).
