Courtney Campbell Obituary
Celebration of Courtney's Life - Memorial Service October 23, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church 6601 Bradley Blvd. Bethesda, Maryland Courtney Kempe Campbell, 91, passed away on June 17, 2021 at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Courtney was born in Lake Forest, IIlinois and moved to California with her family in 1933.
She was the second of four children, all of whom grew up on a citrus ranch in Ojai, California. She attended multiple secondary schools in California and one in Arizona. After attending Smith and Occidental Colleges, she rounded out her education by taking a year at a Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Chicago, Illinois in 1950.
Courtney was working in Washington DC with the CIA when she was introduced to her future husband, Walter Lowrie Campbell. Courtney and Lowrie were married at the family home in Ojai, California. From there, they departed for what would be the beginning of 17 consecutive and adventurous years overseas. They lived in Pakistan, Turkey and India, where all six of their children were born, returning to the US in 1969.
After her husband, Lowrie, died in 1970, Courtney married Congressman Charles Teague, who represented Ventura, California. When that marriage ended, she moved to New Hampshire in 1973, where she lived until her return to the DC area where four of her children were living at the time. Courtney is survived by her brother Edson Kempe of Bellingham, WA; her sister Ann Brand of Seattle, WA; her children Andrew Campbell and wife Marsha of Alexandria, VA, Hester Campbell and husband Mike Mills of Concord, NH, Sarah Campbell of Pittsburgh, PA, Brian Campbell and wife Loree of Bethesda, MD, Duncan Campbell and wife Karen of Oak Park, CA, and Matthew Campbell of Alpharetta, GA; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
