He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Dorothy Hennessey, and John "Jack" Hennessey, Sr. of Baltimore; his wife Sylvia; his daughter Katherine (David Dettlaff) of Myrtle Beach; his granddaughter Ella Sylvia Dettlaff; his siblings, Eileen E. Hennessey of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Cathy N. Hurd of Severna Park, MD and Stephen M. Hennessey of Baltimore, MD; his siblings-in-law, Debbie Hennessey of Baltimore, MD, Donna Fellers of Lenoir, NC, Rebecca Belk of Charlotte, NC, Kim Ruff of Charlotte, NC, Butch Hurd of Severna Park, MD, David Belk of Charlotte, NC. and Charles Ruff of Charlotte, NC.; his friend Holly Russell; and his daughters, Christy Dougherty and Alison Canning.
