He was predeceased by: his brother Matthew Sampson. He is survived by: his parents, Matthew E. Blackwell and Wilma Joyner Blackwell of Wilson; his sister Kimberly Joyner of Hyattsville, Maryland; and his aunts and uncles, Elder Deborah Blackwell of Wilson, Ethel Cox of Newark, Julia Jones of Suitland, Maryland, Kenneth Blackwell (Ann) of Wilson, Willie Blackwell (Shirlene) of Wilson, Walter Blackwell (Gladys) of Wilson, Kelvin Blackwell of Waldorf, James Joyner of Suitland, Carless Joyner of Alexander City and Joe Joyner of Fayetteville. He is also survived by three nieces; two nephews; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
