He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Joseph, Sr. and Ella Louise Lyles; his siblings, Albert "Butchie", George Lyles, Joyce Shorter and Carrie Lyles; his nephew Paul Shorter; his great-nephews, Trae Hurd and Nathaniel Penn; and his great-niece Mia Shorter.

He is survived by: his siblings, William Leroy "Tinyman", Clarence Leo, James Randolph "Randy" and Carolyn Prince "Angel"; and also Egypt.
