He was predeceased by: his granddaughter Lyndsay Valentine; his siblings, Beverly Catterton and Bert Gibbons; and his parents, Robert Gibbons and Mary Gibbons.

He is survived by: his wife Ruth; his children, Robert III (Kristin) of Edgewater and Christina Valentine of Arnold; his grandchildren, Michael, Adam Valentine and Amelia Gibbons; and his sisters, Mary Dickerson of Henderson and Janet Calabrese of Stevensville.
