He was predeceased by : his father Sheldon Whitacre; and his brother Kenneth Ray Whitacre. He is survived by : his mother Nadean Whitacre (Lewis); his wife Vicki L. Whitacre (Schlosnagle); his stepchildren, Robert Walker (Andrea), Tyler Walker and Hannah Walker; his siblings, Matthew Whitacre (April Friend) and Diane Welch (Darrell); his nieces, Katie Welch and Michelle Welch-Torgerson (Nicholas); his great-nieces, Kennedy O'Brien and Ivy Torgerson; and his great-nephew Carter Whitacre.

Visitation was held on Friday, June 28th 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Newman Funeral Homes (1100 Memorial Dr, Oakland, MD 21550). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 29th 2024 at 4:00 PM at the Southern Rescue Squad Hall (200 Baltimore Ave, Oakland, MD 21550).
