He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles E. Sexton and Annie M. Sexton (Spurlin); his wife Betty Sexton (Ashford); and his siblings, Charles and Shelby.

He is survived by: his children, Howard Sexton, Jr. (Teresa) of Havre de Grace, Jennifer Sexton of Aberdeen and Estella Parker of Gulf Port, Miss.; his grandson Nathanael Phillips; and his brothers, Carl Sexton of Aberdeen, James Sexton of McKenney, VA and Dennis Sexton of Dewitt, VA..
