She was predeceased by: her former husband Anthony Cottone; her sister Barbara J. Flynn; and her parents, Francis Flynn and Mary Flynn (Noonan). She is survived by: her husband Robert F. Mayo; and her siblings, Francis J. Flynn III and Karen Gouin (David). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Ellen's memory may be made to UMass Diabetes Center of Excellence, UMass Office of Advancement, 333 South Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545 for continued research in type 1 diabetes.
