He was predeceased by: his wife Elsie M. Carlson (Phillips); his stepson Bruce F. Heelan; his brothers, Elmer A., Philip A., Adolph A. and Eric A. Carlson; and his parents, Gustaf A. Carlson and Hannah M. Carlson (Sansten).
He is survived by: his children, Melissa M. Hey (David A. Hey) of Oakham, Philip G. Carlson (John G. Carlson) of North Grafton and Laura E. Carlson; his grandsons, Bruce F. Heelan of San Diego, CA, Andrew A. Hey and Mathew D. Hey of Barre, MA; his stepson James J. Heelan; his sister Eva M. Martinelli (Carlson) of Worcester; and also Lisa Worthington of Worcester. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
