He was predeceased by: his grandson Eric; his parents, Thomas P. Gaffney and Mary Gaffney (Stamm); and his siblings, Francis, Thomas, Joseph and Elizabeth Gaffney.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Jilliane, Kristin, Neal, Nicole, Meghan, Kimberly, Matthew, Grace, Anna, Christina, Peter, Joseph and Brianna; his wife Barbara A. Gaffney (Sherry); and his children, James Gaffney Jr. (Sandra), Elaine Santosuosso (Ronald) of Walpole, Kevin Gaffney (Christine Longo) of Woburn, Christine Vespucci (late Anthony) of Pepperell, Sherry Richardson (Brian) of Stratham, NH and Lisa D'Arrigo (Peter) of Woburn. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
