He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Kenney and Reva Kenney (Stacy); his brother John R. Kenney; and his grandson Timothy "Timmy" Sanderford. He is survived by: his wife Elly; his daughters, Diane Sanderford (David Sanderford) of North Carolina and Barbara Kenney-Snuffin (William Snuffin) of Virginia; his grandchildren, Ben Sanderford (Farley), Luke Sanderford, Durham Snuffin (Christina), Morgan Snuffin, Jenavieve Snuffin and Preston Snuffin (Kimberly); his sister Betty Groomes; his sister-in-law Paula Kenney; and his friend Donald Mitchell. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
